North Nevada Rally - July 8-9 2011
Tyler and Tony competed on the North Nevada Rally based in Lovelock, Nevada. A total 25 cars started day 1 (Friday) and competed over 8 stages totalling 40 miles. Early in the rally the thermostat housing cracked losing quite a lot of water, and the engine began overheating and became difficult to start. The crew was forced to keep the engine running despite the high temperature. At one time control, after letting the engine cool, it refused to fire up again. Tony had to jump into the drivers seat and bump start the car in reverse with Tyler pushing. By good fortune and a great team effort we were able to nurse the car through the night without losing any time on the stages, and without incurring any penalties.
Tyler and Tony ended Friday in 8th position overall.
Only 15 cars started day 2 (Saturday, 8 stages total 80 miles). After a good run over the first stage, the still overheating engine finally died and refused to restart on the road section between the first and second stages. We found that the electric cooling fan relay had burned out and fixed that at the roadside. Unfortunately the cylinder head gasket had failed, and we were forced to retire while in 7th position overall.
